19 09 10: Club Filmosophy - The Headless Woman
8pm The Headless Woman (Martel 07)
After two excellent Club Filmosophy nights as part of our recent Extraordinary Film Season, Daniel Frampton returns with another series of Club Filmosophy nights. These evenings will see a short introduction to the night’s film from Dan and often guest speakers, then the screening, and then an informal discussion around the film and some of the major themes.
Tonight’s movie is the third film from Argentine director Lucrecia Martel. The Headless Woman is a film with a subtle kind of surrealism, and has been compared to the works of David Lynch and Luis Bunuel. We see a film-world strangely altered by a knock to consciousness, resulting in a tilt at a world once known and now seen differently. Plenty of varying responses from public and critics but Artforum called it 'one of the great films of the decade' and Salon saw in it 'a complex and devastating parable'.
